These projects are truly unique experiences for everyone involved and one that our students remember for the rest of their lives.

LEARN KEY PRINCIPLES IN STEM FIRST HAND AND DEVELOP AN APPRECIATION OF LITERATURE

Lessons

Interactive lessons are delivered by professionally qualified teachers of English at a teacher: student ratio of no more than 1:15. Students study literary texts, traditional stories and famous poems

Workshops

Students learn from specialist experts in workshops, including: Public speaking and drama, dramatic presentation of poetry, verse and text, creative writing, dance/sports, music, magazine production, Romeo & Juliet and British etiquette

Excursions

To us, excursions and leisure time are equally as important as lessons and as such we select and train professional teachers with backgrounds in the Humanities to deliver these aspects of the curriculum.


Students experience the world-famous sights and landmarks of London, including:

    Buckingham Palace, The Houses of Parliament, Whitehall, Westminster Abbey, Trafalgar Square and Nelson’s ColumnA West End MusicalThe British Museum; a chance to see the vast collection of world artefacts and cultureCovent Garden; an opportunity to experience the culture and street performers of this famous London marketThe Globe Theatre; students have the opportunity to work with professional actorsSt Paul’s Cathedral, designed by the famous architect Sir Christopher Wren

        As well as:

    Cambridge; students have the opportunity to explore the town and visit one of the famous collegesHampton Court, a favourite of Henry VIII, andWindsor town; a chance to view Eton College (flight time permitting)

Afternoon and social Activities


Students enjoy a wide variety of engaging social activities including: Competitions, quizzes, video workshops, music and songs and an achievement ceremony with public performance.


Orientation, British sports and games improve students’ oral competence in English as well as teamwork and leadership skills


Outcomes and Achievements

Our students celebrate their achievements and successes at a farewell ceremony. They create their own publication and showcase their accomplishments in a drama and public speaking performance.

All parents are invited to attend the ceremony, where every student receives a comprehensive graduation pack, which is a very useful addition to their personal portfolios. This includes:

A personal academic report from their Excel Academy tutor

The content and objectives of the learning programme

Their achievement certificates 

The publication: collaborative magazine or journal 

The video of the performance


Past Excel Academy students have gained access to universities such as:

Oxford           

Cambridge     

Imperial College London

London School of Economics       

And early admission to Hong Kong universities


Past students return home with improved written and oral communication skills as well as increased confidence and independence. Very importantly, they become equipped to perform successfully in interviews for further study in their home countries or abroad.
